What is a recurring sinus infection (sinusitis)?

The swelling of the tissues in the nose due to an underlying cause is called sinusitis. This swelling can make it difficult for mucus to drain from your nose, which can lead to a sinus infection.

Chronic or recurring sinus infections/sinusitis are classified as swelling or pain in the nasal passages for longer than three months at a time.

At Trinity ENT, we can develop a treatment plan that will work for you.

Suffering from chronic sinus pain without being able to find a treatment that works can be frustrating. Oftentimes, people just give up and accept their sinus pain as a way of life, but you don’t have to live like that. A treatment plan developed specifically for you at Trinity ENT may include one or more of the following:

Home Remedies
Most people tend to start off with home remedies before visiting the doctor. Some common home remedies that can provide relief for someone suffering from a mild sinus infection include:

●     Staying Hydrated - Because the body is made up of mostly water, it works at its best when properly hydrated. Staying hydrated while sick can help the immune system work to the best of its ability.
●     Humidifiers or Misters - Steam or mist can help get into mucus blockages in the nose and thin them out. Thinning out the mucus can allow it to drain so that the body can begin healing the impacted sinus cavities.
●     Using a Neti Pot or Rinse - Sinus rinses can effectively rinse out mucus blockages in the nose. However, they can be dangerous when not following the manufacturer's instructions precisely.
●     Using a Cold/Warm Compress - Alternating between cold and warm compresses on the face can help decrease inflammation.

Medication
Self-medication for sinus issues is a popular treatment method among most people. However, over-the-counter medication may not be effective against recurring sinus infections and they can come with unwanted side effects without even providing long-term relief from sinus symptoms. So, what’s the best way to get long-term relief from sinus pain?

Long-Term Sinus Treatments

Sinus Surgery - Sinus surgeries, such as deviated septum surgery and endoscopic sinus surgery, can be effective, but they can also be painful. Often during sinus surgery, bone and tissues must be removed. There is now a better way to get lasting treatment for sinus pain.

In-Office Procedures - We offer minimally invasive in-office procedures at Trinity ENT. Minimally invasive procedures can be more effective and less painful than traditional sinus surgery. One of our best in-office procedures is called Balloon Sinuplasty.

Balloon Sinuplasty Is Effective and Safe

Balloon Sinuplasty is a minimally invasive in-office procedure that can effectively provide long-lasting sinus pain relief. During the Balloon Sinuplasty procedure, your sinuses will be gently opened so that your sinus infection can be cleaned out and you can continue living life without worrying about chronic sinus infections.
